Mother’s Day with Our Moms / Día de la Madre con Nuestras Mamás

IMG_5470Mother’s Day…a day that often turns into a month of celebrations here in El Salvador. For our children at La Casa, this day stirs lots of emotion. There is a reason that created separation. Death, abandonment, abuse, and a number of other reasons life has a way of throwing out at our kids. None of these words rings well with your soul. However, as with all things in life, you take someone’s hand and walk through it together.

It was the weekend after the official Mother’s Day that we had family visitation day at La Casa. How would we approach this day?IMG_5507 Our La Casa support staff wanted to create a fun day celebrating the moms we have attend our family program. We are thankful for the mothers, sisters, aunts, grandmothers, and friends who visit. Mothers were greeted at the door with a rose, our girls performed a little dance they had choreographed for the mothers, a special photo booth was set up with fun props, special words were shared, and a cake was cut. A day to make new memories…extend grace and offer hope.

IMG_5615But not all of our children have a family mother figure in their lives. This is tough. This makes no sense. This creates deep crevices in the soul. This requires an honest look at life. May you join with us to celebrate hope of brighter futures and ask for healing of old deep wounds.

  1. Makes me wish I could have been there to hug on those without moms and played mom for the day! I love these kids so much and it amazes me how much they change every time I see photos. My heart hurts knowing the pain these boys and girls have suffered and that days like Mothers Day and Fathers Day can bring so much of that pain and suffering to the surface. Thank you for loving on these children. Thank you to the house parents that truly are a mom and dad figure for each of them. Thank you to the Tia’s and Tio’s and all the other staff that love and care for them daily. Simply… THANK YOU for all you do for the children of Jesus Christ.
