Laws are changing in El Salvador. The court system has been assigned the task of reviewing children’s cases and placing children back with family. La Casa is fortunate that we began the challenge of finding healthy members who would be
willing to connect with our children several years ago. Now, three of our children are beginning the step of moving back with family members. They are visiting with their family on weekends and will spend the upcoming August vacation with family. One of our stories is Oscar who is returning to live with his older sister.
Oscar’s older sister, Ana, is married and has a young son. She has been excited to share in Oscar’s life again. However, Oscar’s family is unemployed. Unemployment in rural areas is very high or is only seasonal. In an attempt to help Ana care for Oscar, we began several months ago contemplating with her what type of small business might be profitable where she lives. Many options were considered, and finally Ana decided that she would like to make and sell pupusas, a traditional Salvadoran food.
La Casa was blessed with teams this summer who have helped us prepare for our move to the farm. In this transformation, each home now prepares their own meals; so we no longer use the large plancha, or griddle, that was once used to prepare tortillas for both homes. La Casa decided to donate this to Oscar’s family. The GlobalX youth team visiting this week agreed to help purchase ingredients, bowls, utensils, paper to wrap the pupusas in to sell, and a tank of gas. We loaded these items on a truck and set out to deliver them to Ana. A mini pupuseria was on its way that will help to provide sustainable income for the family.
Ana had tears in her eyes when we arrived. She shared that she was so grateful for the love and support shown to her family. She is anxious to get started in her new business. This week begins vacations and she will be able to tap into the tourists that will visit the beach were they live.
Norys, our social worker, has helped her to set prices and decide what amounts to spend, re-invest, and save. She will continue to visit regularly and coach her along the way. We’d like to ask that you join us in prayer for their family and their new business venture.

PUPUSERIA ANA
Las leyes están cambiando en El Salvador. El sistema judicial, se ha tomado la tarea de estudiar los casos de cada niño, decidiendo así, que niños deben ser reintegrados con sus familias de procedencia.
Gracias a Dios, algunos años atrás, La Casa tomó el reto de buscar familiares de los niños, que estuvieran sanos mental y físicamente para poder tener una relación con los niños. Actualmente, tres de nuestros chicos están comenzando este proceso de irse a vivir con sus familiares. Cada fin de semana, estos chicos están visitando a sus familias, y pasarán las vacaciones de agosto con ellos. Una de estas historias, es la de Oscar, quien regresará a vivir con su hermana mayor.
La hermana mayor de Oscar, Ana, está casada y tiene un hijo pequeño, ella está muy emocionada de compartir su vida con Oscar nuevamente. Sin embargo, la familia de Oscar está sin trabajo, el desempleo en las áreas rurales es muy alto y solamente hay trabajo por temporadas. Hace unos meses atrás, en un intento de ayudar Ana a cuidar de Oscar, comenzamos a contemplar la idea de que tipo de negocios podrían ser rentables en el lugar a donde ella vive. Muchas opciones fueron consideradas, y finalmente Ana decidió que a ella le gustaría vender pupusas.
La Casa ha sido muy bendecida en este mes al tener grupos del extranjero que nos visitan, quienes nos están ayudado a preparar nuestra mudanza para que los chicos puedan ir a vivir en nuestra Finca. Como parte de este proceso, ahora cada casa cocina sus propias comidas; así que ya no utilizamos más la plancha, anteriormente se usaban para hacer las tortillas para todos los chicos. La Casa decidió donar la plancha a la familia de Oscar. GlobalX Youth Team nos visitó la semana pasada y nos ayudaron a comprar ingredientes para las pupusas, recipientes, papel para envolver y un tanque de gas.
Le llevamos todos estos materiales a Ana, una mini pupuseria iba en camino, la cual les dará un ingreso para ayudar a sostener a la familia.
Cuando llegamos, Ana tenía lágrimas en sus ojos, lloraba de felicidad, ella nos dijo que se sentía muy agradecida por el amor y apoyo mostrado a su familia y que se siente ansiosa por comenzar con su nuevo negocio. Esta semana comienzan las vacaciones y ella tendrá la oportunidad de vender pupusas a los turistas que visitarán la playa a donde ella vive. Norys, nuestra trabajadora social, la ha ayudado a definir los precios y decidir que cantidades gastar, reinvertir y guardar. Ella continuará visitándole regularmente y la entrenará a lo largo del camino. Nos gustaría que nos acompañes en oración por esta familia y su nuevo negocio.

This summer, we have been blessed with teams who have shared the desire of making our homes more “homy”. This past week, a GlobalX team from Cumberland Community Church in Tennessee continued the project by working in the boys’ home. They painted, scrubbed, repaired, and put light into the boys’ bedrooms. New beds were delivered and fresh sheets were all in place. Our boys were able to work alongside the team and special bonds were formed between our boys and the team. Saying goodbye was filled with hugs and tears.
