Farewell Words

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28

 Last Friday, our young adults at La Casa said goodbye to a stage in their lives and began a new journey. They left La Casa to move into our new transition home just a few miles away, but each felt as if they were leaving a part of themselves behind. They walked down the hall with suitcases filled with their belongings, while handing out hugs to everyone. Between tears and smiles, they shared a few moments with those that have been their family for last eight to nine years. The children and some staff members expressed some words of encouragement to each of them that we would like to share:

“I remember when these young adults were just little children. I have watched them grow up.  Although it is sad to see them move on, I understand this is a necessary step in their lives. My advice to each of them is to remember that Christ is with them wherever they go. If they fall, they have to get up and face the challenges in life. They are very capable,” expressed Carmen (a worker at La Casa).

“Even though you have been protected at La Casa, don’t be afraid to face the world.  Take advantage of this opportunity that has been given to you and learn to be independent. In this way, you will be able to help your families in the future,” advised Silvia.

 “Always look forward, never look back. The Lord will fulfill His promises in each of you,” shared Estrella.

William’s words of advise included, “I want to tell them to go ahead, always making sure that God is first in their lives. We will always be here for them as a family.”

 “For me, the older ones are like my big brothers. Salvador even left me a gift. I admire him a lot. They have all been examples to us. I hope that their dreams come true and that they do not become discouraged. In the beginning, nothing is easy,” shared José.

 Thank you for praying for these young adults as they take this first step in their new journey.

“Ahora bien, sabemos que Dios dispone todas las cosas para el bien de quienes lo aman, los que han sido llamados de acuerdo con su propósito.” Romanos 8:28 (NVI)

El pasado viernes nuestros jóvenes adultos de La Casa dijeron adiós a una etapa de su vida y comenzaron un camino diferente, se mudaron a nuestra nueva Casa de Transición la cual está ubicada a pocos minutos de distancia, sin embargo nuestros chicos sienten que están dejando una parte de sus vidas en La Casa. Con sus maletas listas, caminaron por el pasillo repartiendo abrazos.  Entre lágrimas y sonrisas, compartieron los últimos momentos con aquellos que han sido su familia por los últimos ocho o nueve años. Los niños y algunos de los miembros del staff expresaron palabras de aliento para ellos:

“Recuerdo cuando estos jovencitos aún eran unos niños pequeñitos. Los he visto crecer y me conmueve verlos irse, pero entiendo que es un paso  necesario en sus vidas. Mi consejo es que lleven a Cristo donde quiera que vayan, que si alguna vez caen deben levantarse y enfrentar cada reto que les ponga la vida, ellos son muy capaces”  nos dice Carmen (empleada de La Casa).

“Aunque hayan estado protegidos acá en La Casa, no tengan miedo de enfrentarse al mundo, aprovechen esta oportunidad que nos están dando y aprendan a ser independientes para en un futuro ayudar a sus familias” Aconseja Silvia

“Siempre vean hacia adelante, nunca vean el pasado. El Señor cumplirá sus promesas en cada uno de ustedes” nos comparte Estrella

Palabras y consejos de William: “Quiero decirles que sigan adelante que pongan a Dios en primer lugar en sus vidas y que siempre vamos a estar para ustedes como familia.”

“Para mí los más grandes son como mis hermanos mayores. Salvador me dejó un recuerdo y yo a él lo admiro bastante, son nuestro ejemplo a seguir. Deseo que hagan realidad sus sueños y que no se desanimen, al principio nada es fácil” nos comparte José

Gracias por orar por nuestros jóvenes en esta nueva etapa de sus vidas.

Understanding God’s Love

I graduated from high school Thursday night, and I can look back and see what I have accomplished, how far I have come . . .

I arrived at La Casa on June 4, 2002 one month after La Casa began.  I did not know that God even existed and rejected Him because my mother had rejected Him. After I had been at La Casa for a while, I began to meet missionaries who spoke another language that I didn’t understand. I wondered why they would leave their homes and come so far to help us.  I began to see that God was real, but I questioned why He let my father die when I was five years old.  I felt a real fight going on in my mind and heart.

As I watched teams continue come back year after year, I felt loved and important.  I realized that they were motivated by a love that could only come from God. As time went on, God answered my questions.  He has shown me that His plans are special for each one of us and that He brings blessing for each even through the pain.  I also discovered that I had to forgive my mother for the things that I resented in my heart.  I have been given grace to do just that, and today I can finally say that I am free of unforgiveness and know that God loves me.

When I came to La Casa, I was very excited to have the opportunity to go to school. I wanted to learn English to thank the people who came on mission teams one day in their language. I was thankful that had the opportunity to learn English at my school and then study at an advanced level on Saturdays.  I now love the English language and plan to study it in college too.  My education has also helped me realized that I have lots of gifts, including singing, painting, and writing poems.

I will be moving into the Transition home soon.  I must say that I was initially scared of this move, but I now realize that this will allow me to continue my studies while becoming independent. I am thankful for donors whose hearts have been touched to help with this project. I want to honor God and take advantage to all the opportunities I am given.  Most of all, I am thankful to God because his mercy has reached me.

Entendí el Amor de Dios

Ruth en su graduación. Se llevo el segundo lugar de su clase.

Me gradué de bachillerato la noche del jueves, puedo ver atrás y darme cuenta de todo lo que he logrado y lo lejos que he llegado.

Llegué un mes después de que La Casa inició, el 4 de junio del 2002, en ese tiempo no tenía idea de la existencia de Dios y lo rechacé porque mi mamá lo rechazó antes. Después de haber estado por un tiempo en La Casa, comenzaron a venir misioneros que hablaban otro idioma que yo no entendía,  me pregunté ¿Por qué ellos dejan sus casas y vienen de tan lejos a ayudarnos? Comencé a darme cuenta de que Dios era real, pero también me preguntaba ¿Por qué Él permitió que mi papá falleciera cuando yo tenía 5 años? Entonces, sentí una verdadera lucha en mi mente y en mi corazón.

Mientras yo observaba a los grupos misioneros venir año tras año, me sentí amada e importante, me dí cuenta que ellos eran motivados por el amor que sólo puede venir de Dios. Con el pasar del tiempo, Dios contestó mis preguntas, Él me mostró que sus planes son especiales para cada uno de nosotros y que Él traerá bendición a pesar del dolor que hayamos que tenido que vivir. También me dí cuenta que debía perdonar a mi mamá por las cosas que resentía en mi corazón, ahora finalmente puedo decir que soy libre de todo resentimiento y sé que Dios me ama.

Cuando vine a La Casa, estuve muy emocionada por tener la oportunidad de estudiar, yo quería aprender inglés para agradecer con mis palabras a todas las personas que vinieron a visitarnos en grupos misioneros. Estoy agradecida por la oportunidad que tuve de aprender inglés en mi colegio y de poder estudiar niveles avanzados los días sábados. Ahora me encanta el idioma inglés y planeo estudiarlo en la Universidad. A través de mis estudios me he dado cuenta de todos los dones y talentos que tengo como cantar, pintar y escribir poemas.

Muy pronto me iré a vivir a La Casa de Transición. Tengo que admitir que al principio me daba miedo este cambio, pero ahora me doy cuenta que me permitirá continuar con mis estudios mientras aprendo a ser independiente. Estoy agradecida con los donantes que han sentido en su corazón apoyarnos en este proyecto, también quiero honrar a Dios y aprovechar la oportunidad que me ha sido dada. Agradezco a  Dios porque su misericordia me ha alcanzado.

Harvesting Fruits

I am about to begin a new stage in my life as I graduate from high school. I want to take the time to thank God for all the blessings that He has given to me and to all of those people that God has used to support me along the way.

My dream is to one day become a chef and have my own restaurant. Next year, this dream will begin to become a reality as I study culinary arts. I have been praying for the Lord to open doors for me to later continue my studies in another country. This desire to travel and learn about other cultures is so that I can share with others what I have experienced.  I have learned that God blesses people so that they can then bless others. When I have my own restaurant, I would like to come to La Casa at least once a month to cook for the children and prepare a special dinner for them.

I have been thinking about the farmer that prepares the ground to plant, then waters and fertilizes the seed until the plant matures and produces fruit. You’ve been like that farmer in my life.  Ever since I was a little child, you have been my support in EVERYTHING. Now that I have finished this chapter of my life and graduated from high school, I hope you can see the fruits of your labor.  This is why I want to thank all of you who have supported me through my schooling. I am praying every day that God blesses you and your family in all that you do.

 “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” Galatians 6:9-10 (NIV)

Cosechando Frutos

Estoy por comenzar una nueva etapa en mi vida, voy a graduarme muy pronto de bachillerato. Quiero tomar el tiempo para darle gracias a Dios por todas las bendiciones que Él me ha dado y también agradecer a todas aquellas personas que Él ha utilizado para apoyarme a lo largo de mi camino.

Mi sueño es ser Chef y un día poder tener mi propio restaurante. El próximo año comenzaré a hacer realidad ese sueño porque estudiaré Artes Culinarias. Estoy orando también para que el Señor abra puertas para poder ir a especializarme al extranjero como Chef. El deseo de viajar y conocer otras culturas es para poder compartir con otros la experiencia. He aprendido que Dios bendice personas para que estas puedan bendecir a otras. Cuando tenga mi propio restaurante, me gustaría venir a La Casa al menos una vez al mes, a cocinar con los chicos y darles una cena especial.

Pienso en el sembrador que prepara la tierra para plantar, luego la riega y abona la semilla hasta que la planta madura y produce frutos. Así han sido conmigo todos ustedes, que desde que yo era un niño me han estado apoyando en TODO. Ahora pueden ver los frutos de su trabajo, hoy que he culminado esta etapa y he finalizado mi bachillerato. Es por eso que quiero agradecerles a quienes me han estado apoyando a lo largo de mis estudios. Estoy orando cada día para que Dios les bendiga a ustedes y a sus familias en todo lo que hagan.

“No nos cansemos de hacer el bien, porque a su debido tiempo cosecharemos si no nos damos por vencidos. Por lo tanto, siempre que tengamos la oportunidad, hagamos bien a todos, y en especial a los de la familia de la fe.” Gálatas 6:9-10 (NVI)
