Carolina riding
In 2010, two horses were donated to La Casa, and since then our children have had the privilege of participating in a therapeutic riding program. The children ride on the weekends and participate in a riding camp during their vacations. Riding provides them the opportunity to get out of the city, get some exercise, and enjoy the farm, while learning how to care for others, and build trust and self-confidence.
Little Salvador, who does not usually talk, now walks up to his horse, Serena, pets her and says, “Buenos Dias,” which is “good morning” in English. The movement of the horse provides him with the stimulation to be able to learn, so this child, who rarely speaks, can be found singing “Las Gotas de Lluvia” (“If All the Raindrops” in English) while he’s riding. He also always hugs Serena when he is finished and says, “Gracias, “ or “thank-you”.
Riding the horses has given Graciela a boost in confidence because she’s overcome her fear of them. When she started riding, she had to have someone walk on both sides of her, but now is trotting by herself. She looks forward to riding and even volunteers to ride first.
Whitney used to have to ride on the horse with Little Emanuel, but now he rides alone and has learned to follow instructions while riding. His great big smile shows how proud he is of himself.

One of our best riders, Carolina, enjoys riding because it gives her an outlet for her emotions. She has learned the benefits of releasing stress while riding and grooming the horses. She has made great strides in her riding abilities and most enjoys the challenge of jumping.
Alejandro, who now lives in our transition home, enjoys spending some of his Saturdays on the farm, helping to take care of the horses and with the younger children’s lessons. The horses have taught him responsibility and serve as an outlet for his emotions, too.
Private donors support the horse program and Whitney also works to cover the costs of the horses. She has also been able to offer lessons to another children’s home and a young boy from the community near the farm. We are thankful for the gift of these horses. They’ve blessed Whitney, the children, and countless others.
And we have to admit…the manure has been good for the vegetables.

Amigos de confianza
Graciela muy feliz cabalgando
Unos lindos caballos fueron donados a La Casa en el año 2010, desde entonces nuestros niños tienen el privilegio de participar en el programa de Equinoterapia. Los chicos cabalgan durante los fines de semana y también durante las vacaciones, esto les da la oportunidad de salir de la ciudad, hacer un poco de ejercicio y disfrutar al aire libre. La Equionterapia les ayuda a construir su confianza, a cuidar de otros y a desarrollar una buena autoestima.
Nuestro pequeño Salvador, que usualmente no habla, ha progresado mucho. Ahora camina con mucho entusiasmo hacia la yegua Serena, la acaricia y dice “Buenos días”. Mientras él cabalga, canta “Las Gotas de Lluvia” y cuando termina siempre abraza a Serena y le dice “Gracias”. Esta experiencia motiva a Salvador a aprender ya que raras veces habla.
Cabalgar le ha dado a Graciela seguridad y confianza. Cuando ella comenzó las terapias, le tenía miedo a los caballos y dos personas tenían que ir caminando a su lado mientras montaba. Ahora, cuando Graciela monta el caballo, corre con él y siempre busca la manera de ser la primera en montarlo.
Cuando Emanuel comenzó las clases, Whitney siempre tenía que montar el caballo con él. Ahora él cabalga solo, está aprendiendo a seguir instrucciones y siempre tiene una gran sonrisa, se siente orgulloso de hacerlo por sí solo.
Una de nuestras mejores jinetes es Carolina. Ella disfruta mucho cabalgar ya que le da una sensación de libertad, ha aprendido los beneficios de liberarse del estrés cuando cabalga y limpia a los caballos. Carolina ha progresado mucho en sus habilidades ya que disfruta el reto del salto de obstáculos.

Alejandro, que ahora vive en nuestra Casa de Transición, disfruta de pasar los sábados en la Finca ayudando a cuidar los caballos, mientras los chicos más pequeños reciben las clases. Los caballos le han enseñado a ser responsable, también son una herramienta para liberar sus emociones.
Gracias a los donantes que apoyan el programa de Equinoterapia, Whitney, nuestra Equinoterapeuta, también trabaja para cubrir los costos de los caballos, da clases a niños de otros hogares; en particular, a un jovencito de escasos recursos que pertenece a una comunidad aledaña a la Finca.
Estamos muy agradecidos por los caballos, son un regalo muy valioso; una bendición para Whtiney, los niños y muchos otros han sido también beneficiados. ¡También debemos admitir que los caballos nos están dando muy buen abono para la siembra de vegetales en la Finca!
